About

Timothy Schraeder Rodriguez is a writer, creator, and activist helping LGBTQ+ people find their way back to God and to themselves.

His debut memoir, Conversion Therapy Dropout, won the inaugural Kirkus Indie Award. His writing on faith, sexuality, and belonging has appeared in TIME, Oprah Daily, Harper's Bazaar, Religion News Service, and The Advocate, and he was a 2026 GLAAD Media Award nominee for Outstanding Journalism.

To more than 60,000 followers across social media and Substack, Tim shares honest content about life, gay stuff, spirituality, and everything in between. He is also the co-creator of Pray the Gay to Stay, a 31-day course for queer people navigating faith and identity.

As co-founder of Church Clarity, he helps queer people find affirming faith communities. His advocacy comes from lived experience: he spent nearly a decade in conversion therapy while working behind the scenes at some of the country's most influential evangelical megachurches.

His story has drawn international coverage from ABC News, NPR, BBC Newshour, NBC, VICE, CBC, and The Washington Post.

Born in Peoria, Illinois, and shaped by more than a decade in Chicago, Tim has called New York City home since 2018. By day, he works in marketing at Google and lives in Brooklyn with his mini Schnauzer, Matias.

Writer

Stories that tell the truth on faith, sexuality, and the long road to belonging.

I write to make sense of things and to help others feel less alone in them.

My memoir, Conversion Therapy Dropout, is the story of trying to pray myself straight and what happened when I finally stopped.

I also write op-eds on faith, LGBTQ+ rights, and the forces shaping both, and I publish regularly on Substack, where I share essays, reflections, and conversations you won't find anywhere else.

Creator

Life, gay stuff, spirituality, and everything in between.

I want to live as authentically online as I do offline: funny, honest, a little messy, sober, and always curious. My posts about life, gay stuff, Broadway, sobriety, spirituality, writing, creativity, and everything in between reach more than 60,000 followers.

I've also joined podcast conversations like Getting Better with Jonathan Van Ness, For the Love with Jen Hatmaker, Culture Study, and Sounds Like a Cult to talk about faith, identity, and finding your way home to yourself.

I'm also the co-creator of Pray the Gay to Stay, a 31-day course made with @lesbiantherapist, to help LGBTQ+ people healing from conversion therapy and high-control religion.

Activist

Speaking out against conversion therapy and for affirming faith.

I spent years in conversion therapy, so I know firsthand the harm it causes and the shame it leaves behind. Today I speak out against it in the press, online, and anywhere I can get a microphone. I want to work to see it banned in the United States and for all LGBTQ+ people to know they are loved just as they are.

I also co-founded Church Clarity to help queer people find faith communities that are honest about where they stand on issues that matter to LGBTQ+ people. Our mission is to empower individuals to make informed decisions about faith communities.
